WHERE ARE OUR COURSES BASED?

Regular Courses are in the Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire or your own preferred location - LEARN MORE!

Creative Photography Wales can undertake photography courses in a wide area around Wales and beyond. At present the majority of the courses are based in the awe inspiring surroundings of the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks.

  • For Individual Courses the choice of location is entirely yours; all we need to do is arrange a mutually agreeable date.
  • For Group Courses, these are run as advertised from the Brecon Beacons (using the Creative Photography Wales studio at Talybont on Usk as a base), or from Pembrokeshire (using facilities at Newgale / St David's as a base)
  • In the last year, we have also completed Individual Courses in the Gower Peninsula, East Sussex, Wiltshire, Warwickshire and Cambridge. If you are not planning to come to our part of Wales - not to worry as with a little notice we can come to you!
  • Expansion plans are currently underway! Group Workshops and Holidays are currently planned at other great places in the UK and Europe - full details shortly when the new Photography Holidays website goes live!

The Creative Photography Wales Car - we'll use this to get you to and between some great locations!

MORE DETAILS ABOUT LOCATIONS FOR GROUP COURSES: MANY OF THESE ARE ALSO USED FOR INDIVIDUAL COURSES

Here are some details of some of the locations your course will take you to and how your itinerary might pan out. Courses are tailor made just for you though so if you want something different please don’t hesitate to drop Nigel a quick message and he will be happy to accommodate your wishes as best he can.

Example itineraries for the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks

As you will see below, each itinerary has its own distinctive flavour and characteristics, from waterfalls and remote mountain photography to coastal scenery and historic monuments. Both the National Parks have two course location options as detailed below. However, Nigel has a detailed knowledge of both National Parks, and if you prefer, will construct an itinerary that will take in your favourite places.

The standard day is 9.15 am to 5.30 / 6pm approx, but on One to One courses this is flexible according to your own preferences.

Explore details of your choice of routes:

Brecon Beacons National Park

Brecon Beacons Central area (Pen y Fan area)

Using Talybont on Usk as our starting point, we travel into the heart of the Beacons past Talybont Reservoir to capture some reflections and work on composition, stop at the Blaen y Glyn Falls for some moving water and up into the heart of the Beacons with fabulous panoramic views of Pen y Fan and the Beacons range.

Black Mountains West area (Crickhowell area)

Again using Talybont on Usk as our starting point, we visit Llangorse Lake for reflections and work with use of perspective, stop off at historic Tretower Castle for some architectural and composition work, take in some panoramic views over Sugar Loaf and the Black Mountains and finish off the day at the Blaen y Glyn Falls before arriving back at Talybont on Usk.

Black Mountains East Area

With Llansantffraed Court Hotel as our base, we drive up the Llanthony Valley, visit to beautiful historic ruin of Llanthony Priory, drive up Gospel Pass (at 542m the highest mountain pass in Wales or England) to take in the panoramic views around Hay Bluff, travel back to visit the remote mountain reservoir of Grwyne Fawr and if the time of year is right, catch the sunset on top of the Skirrid before heading back to the hotel.  This itinerary involves more time spent driving between locations and lasts approximately 9-10 hours in total.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

Please note that itinerary timings in Pembrokeshire may be varied to allow for low / high tide timings. High tides tend to cover up all those nice rock & sand features but do provide opportunities for nice silky water shots! This may at times involve changing the initial tuition session to the middle of the day rather than at the beginning. I would advise and discuss options with you in advance of the start of the course.

Newgale & St Davids Area

With our base at Newgale as our starting point, we visit Whitesands bay, St David’s Head, St David’s Cathedral, Solva village and harbour with fantastic views towards Green Scar and finish (during winter months!) photographing the sunset from Newgale. For those living or staying south of Havorfordwest, there is an option of starting at Marloes south of Havorfordwest,  the best beach for early morning photography in Pembrokeshire, and then moving up to Newgale and Solva for the tuition and afternoon outdoor session.

Saundersfoot & South Pembrokeshire

We start at the Cliff House B&B in Saundersfoot (a Pembrokeshire Short Break Package option), taking time to photograph the harbour, travel to Monkstone Point, which is a stunning location with great opportunities for morning photography, move onto Tenby, with fabulous views over North Beach and the castle, and during winter months, travel to Manorbier to catch the sunset. Finally back to Saundersfoot for the digital processing session.
